*T/N: I'm not familiar with "old" Japanese language, so pardon any mistakes. Also, Souma speaks weirdly and politely because that's how he speaks in the game.

Kanata: Souma. Improve your "conduct" a bit more.

*T/N: "Genji" is a household name that was bestowed on members of the imperial family that were demoted into "normal" noblility. You may also recognize them as "Minamoto".

 

Souma: This katana, too, is a reforge of the original that sunk at Dannoura*.

 

*T/N: "Dannoura" is an area where a battle between the Heike and Genji clans occurred. It's a coastal area and the battle was fought at sea, hence the "sunk" part. According to The Tale of the Heike, a collection of oral stories, the original was kept at Atsuta Shrine and the Kusanagi used at Dannoura was an imitation that was normally used for rituals.

 

Kanata: Fufu. Then, it could be a "Kusanagi"* sword.

 

*T/N: Full thing is "Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi". Previous name was "Ama-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi". It's a fictional sword that represents the virtue of valor. So what Kanata's saying is, the sword's origins and it's soon-to-be purpose makes it a sword of valor.

 

Souma: One of the three Imperial Regalia*? There is such a legend, but Kusanagi...... but I thought the real "Ama-no-Murakumo" was at the Atsuta Shrine?

*T/N: "Imperial Regalia" is the name for three particularly sacred treasures in Japan. These three sacred treasures are a sword (valor), mirror (wisdom), and jewel (benevolence). Nobody's sure of their exact locations up to this day.
 

Kanata: I wonder....... It was long ago, so we don't really know the "truth".
 

Kanata: Fufu, in any case....... I will follow Souma's "advice" and show my face at "Ryuuseitai".
 

Kanata: Perhaps there, I will be able to follow up on the "slasher".
 

Souma: Hm? You've been speaking like that since yesterday. Do you have an idea on who this "slasher" may be, Captain-dono?
